Sem 5 Project 2 Community Library

Jalan Tun H.S. Lee

"Urban Grid-unlocked"

Urban dwellers on site are locked up in their own units, "caged" by grills and sharp steels for protection, even a religious altar is "caged" to prevent thieves on site. The community spirit is gone and replaced. The site has lost its sense of place and the strong social bond it used to have. This library is to provide the current community to stop, relax and ponder. By negotiating the tectonics and massing of the building forms, grids are deformed via intersection of spaces and creation of voids. This stimulates passive contact among users. The spaces are arranged to also capture the intangible value on site, the natural elements, the sounds, colors, smell all of these amplified and framed to make people appreciate and realize the things they have missed in the hustle and bustle of city life.
